MOSS LANDING — The search to locate a 7-year-old boy believed missing near Moss Landing Harbor since Wednesday night continued Thursday. The boy’s mother, who later was pronounced dead at an area hospital, was located near the harbor’s launch ramp between 8 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to Monterey County Undersheriff Keith Boyd. It was too early Thursday to release details of the mother’s identity, Boyd said.“There’s a lot of information that we’re trying to assess to determine the how, the why, that led to this situation in fact occurring,” Boyd said. “At this point, we’re not able to release a lot of information of that aspect.”According to the Coast Guard, a good Samaritan initially notified authorities shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday that he had located a 3-year-old boy near Jetty Road. The boy said his mother was missing in the water, Coast Guard authorities wrote in a press release. After a conversation with the child’s family, the young boy later indicated to emergency re...A tornado in Southern California? Destructive Montebello twister a rarity

As business owners and residents pick up the pieces after a rare tornado tore through Montebello on Wednesday, March 22, many are wondering: How in the heck did that happen?Cell phone videos of the small but wild storm racked up millions of videos on social media, and the National Weather Service sent investigators to the scene to figure out what occurred. Forecasters were initially reluctant to label the storm one way or another.Forecasters eventually concluded on Wednesday that the twister spinning through Montebello at around 11 a.m. was indeed an EF1 tornado. Those have winds ranging from 86 mph to 110 mph. It was the strongest to hit Los Angeles since the 1980s.Tornadoes are ranked on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which uses the amount of damage a tornado inflicts to measure possible wind speed and other attributes. The scale goes from EF-0, a light tornado, to EF-5, with winds of 200 mph-plus.Damage from a tornado that struck an industrial area of Montebello yesterday is seen as ...Ex-Homeland Security employee convicted of molesting young girls in Southern California

On Saturday, the New York Times published a blockbuster story that said two prominent Texas Republicans flew across the Mideast in the summer of 1980 for secret meetings with regional leaders to urge them to tell Iran to keep the U.S. hostages in Tehran until after the election that pitted GOP candidate Ronald Reagan against then-President Jimmy Carter. The Times reported that Ben Barnes, a key figure in Texas politics, said he made the trip with former Texas Gov. John Connally, a major supporter of Reagan’s campaign, and that when they returned home, Connally met in an airport lounge with William Casey, who’d been a top U.S. spy during World War II and was then Reagan’s campaign manager. Connally and Casey discussed the trip, according to Barnes, who The Times quoted as saying, “History needs to know that this happened.” After Reagan beat Carter in a landslide, Reagan appointed Casey head of the Central Intelligence Agency. All this is powerful evidence that the Reagan campaign...Father and son, 2 brothers among 6 killed in Baltimore beltway crash

DÜSSELDORF, Germany (AP) — Another World Cup failure, another rebuild for Germany. This time there’s even more at stake.Germany will host next year’s European Championship and is desperate to avoid another debacle at home. The Germans once took pride in having a “tournament team,” one that could put distractions aside to perform when it mattered. Following group-stage exits at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and a round-of-16 loss at the last European Championship, however, Germany has not won a knockout game since the now-defunct Confederations Cup in 2017.The current rebuild — with Germany able to skip qualifying as Euro 2024 host — starts with friendlies against Peru on Saturday and Belgium on Tuesday.Germany coach Hansi Flick’s squad is a mix of regulars like Emre Can, Timo Werner and Joshua Kimmich, and some more experimental picks. The six players getting their first call-ups include two right backs, Josha Vagnoman and Marius Wolf. There is also AC Milan defender...Express: Fiscal Q4 Earnings Snapshot
