Recipe: Apricot-Almond Breakfast Bars Granola’s great, but it can be messy and sticky, especially in the car or on a hike. The solution: these moist, chewy breakfast bars, courtesy of Simmer + Sauce food blogger Andrea Potischman. Potischman developed the recipe when she and her kids were home with the flu and much too exhausted to remember to eat breakfast. These tasty bars are packed with toasted, whole-grain oats, cashew butter and good-for-you dates. Recipe: Charlotte’s Chocolate Cranberry Granola Bars Who says homemade granola bars have to taste like wheat germ? Not Anne-Marie Bonneau. The Sunnyvale blogger and author of “The Zero-Waste Chef” (Avery, $25) cookbook calls these peanut butter and cocoa powder-laced bars “too good.”Created by her daughter, Charlotte, they feature oats, flaxseed meal, honey and cranberries for a perfect not-too-sweet treat or hiking snack. Mom’s addition of a “flax egg” — flax meal, water and time — helps bind the ingredients and is cheaper than buying eggs these days.Charlotte’s Chocolate Cranberry Granola BarsMakes 15 barsINGREDIENTS1 tablespoon golden or brown flaxseed meal2½ tablespoons water3 cups old fashioned rolled oats½ cup seeds of whatever type you have on hand, like pumpkin or flax½ cup dried cranberries½ cup packed light brown sugar½ teaspoon salt1/3 cup bittersweet chocolate chips or chunks2 tablespoons cocoa powder½ cup unsalted peanut butter1/3 cup honey, maple syrup or brown ...

Recipe: No-Bake Vegan Cowboy Power Bites According to Menlo Park food blogger and chef Andrea Potischman, the homemade power bite craze started in 2017, the same year she launched Simmer + Sauce. It was a direct response to the overpriced, sugar-loaded commercial protein bars often passed off as healthy. These two-bite, coconut-laced balls are healthy, however. In addition to her granola bar-like Apricot Almond Breakfast Bars, Potischman likes to whip these up for a quick breakfast or last-minute hike. If you don’t keep a dairy-free diet, you can use regular chocolate chips.No-Bake Cowboy Power BitesMakes 15 power bitesINGREDIENTS¾ cup rolled oats½ cup shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)1/3 cup dairy-free Enjoy Life chocolate chips (or regular chocolate chips)1/3 cup roasted pecans, finely chopped1 tablespoon dark muscovado sugar, like India Tree½ cup almond flour1/3 cup, plus 1 tablespoon creamy almond butter2 tablespoons local honey1 teaspoon vanilla extract2 tablespoons chia seedsDash of cinnamonRelated Ar...

Playing alongside Team USA ‘dream come true’ for SF Giants minor leaguers SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Before the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday night, there was an announcement over the Scottsdale Stadium loudspeakers. Team USA, scrimmaging with the Giants prior to the World Baseball Classic, had four defensive substitutions. At first base, Pete Alonso. At short, Bobby Witt Jr.There’s nothing more routine than mid-game changes in a spring exhibition. The guys entering in the middle innings aren’t typically home run derby champions and former top prospects — speaking to the depth of the Americans’ lineup that San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler called “ridiculous” — so for good reason, those two names caught the crowd’s attention. The moment, though, undoubtedly meant more to the other two names. At third base, Carter Aldrete. And in left field, Michael Gigliotti. Not members of the national team, no, but rather two of seven Giants minor leaguers selected to serve cameos alongside the star-studded American roster. Memphis big man Steven Adams out at least a few more weeks MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis center Steven Adams will be out for a few more weeks to recover from the sprained ligament in his right knee, the team said Thursday.Adams hurt the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee on Jan. 22 in a game against Phoenix when diving for a loose ball in the final seconds. Initially, the Grizzlies said he would miss three to five weeks. But Adams had a stem cell injection on Wednesday and will “be reevaluated in approximately four weeks,” the team said in a statement. Adams was leading the NBA in offensive rebounds when he was injured and averaging 8.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. The Grizzlies are also without guard Ja Morant, who will not face charges in Colorado related to a livestreamed video in which he appeared to be displaying a gun in a strip club. The team said Wednesday that the earliest Morant could play is March 17 at San Antonio — and there’s no guarantee that’ll happen. ___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/nba and ht...
